Freetime activities
The following facts are from a survey of problems and interets of 23 pupils of the 9th grade:
Part time work:
30 per cent of the 23 pupils have part-time jobs. The most popular jobs are working in a office for a company (72%), and helping in a restaurant (14%).
Helping at home:
Nearly all pupils say that they help at home (83%), but most admit they only do it
because they have to (68%).
Sport:
About three quaters of the teenagers take part regularly in one or more sporting
activities. 28 per cent practise dancing while 22 per cent go swimming. Fitness is
practised by 17 per cent and only a minority of pupils goes fishing and horse-riding.
Money:
A lot of pupils see money as a problem. The boys spend money on: computer equipment
, clothes , cinema , discos and girlfriends. The majority of the girls spend money on make-
up , discos , pubs , CDs, sweets and friends.
Parents:
Most pupils get along with their parents quite well. Only a minority of 5 teenagers
think that their parents are too strict. When there are arguments, however, they are
usually about going out, school, pocket-money, helping at home, telephone bills.
Politics:
Only 9 children (35%) are interested in politics. 65% aren't interested in it. Perhaps they don't understand the political problems.
Social Concerns:
The majority of the 23 interviewed teenagers think it's important to help old or disabled people and to improve the environment, but only 7 pupils actually do something for that.
